Metropolis City Council Meeting - April 22, 2024

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – The Metropolis City Council convened last night, April 22 at the Metropolis City Hall amid a crowded council chamber which included staff of NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt.

The increased attendance at board meetings has been common in 2024 amid disagreements in the community that began earlier this year surrounding the signing of the Illinois Library Bill of Rights and library content.

Following the March 25th City Council meeting at which the topic was tabled, there was expected to be a follow-up regarding three Board of Trustees members whom Metropolis’ Mayor Canada had wished to replace last month.

While the issue regarding the board members was not addressed on the meeting’s agenda – it was addressed throughout the meeting as public speakers stepped forward.  As was the requested recusal of Ward 2 Councilman and Pastor of Eastland Church, Brian Anderson; apologies to board of trustees members and more.
