Today -Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 72. South wind 5 to 8 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Tonight -Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1am, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1am and 4am. Low around 59. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Tuesday  – Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Light and variable wind.

Tuesday Night – Mostly clear, with a low around 58. South wind around 6 mph.

Wednesday – Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. South southwest wind 6 to 9 mph.

Wednesday Night -Mostly clear, with a low around 61. South southeast wind 7 to 10 mph.

Thursday -A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. South wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

Thursday Night – A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Friday – Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Southwest wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

Friday Night – A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 55. Southwest wind 9 to 14 mph becoming north after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph.

Saturday -A chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Northeast wind 9 to 11 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Saturday Night – A slight chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 56. East wind around 9 mph.

Sunday – A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. Southeast wind 8 to 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon.

City of Metropolis Spring Clean Up Week to take place May 13 - 17

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL –  Metropolis City Clean Up Week will take place May 13 – 17.

All items must be at your normal pick up place and within 5 feet of the trash container.

All Items should be bagged or contained – anything loose should be bundled so that it can be handled by one employee.

Lumber will be picked up in small amounts only and must be stacked in 3’x3′ rolls. 

Carpet and padding must also be rolled in no larger than 3’x3′ rolls.

Items that will not be picked up include: electronics, appliances, yard waste, hazardous or medical waste, construction and demolition debris, tires, batteries and paint cans (unless empty and dry).

Massac County Drug Awareness Coalition Visits Metropolis Rotary Club

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – On Thursday the Rotary Club of Metropolis welcomed the Massac County Drug Awareness Coalition to hear about prevention efforts organized by MCDAC.

The Rotarians also advised that the group spoke about a decrease in drug and alcohol use with minors for the 2023/2024 school year.

They also shared with the Rotarians about the number of people they have been able to help and support along their path in recovery.

The Rotarians advised, “Metropolis is fortunate to have such a committed group of individuals in our community who care deeply about those struggling with addiction.”

The Rotary invites those interested in learning more about the mission of Rotary to join them for one of their weekly meetings.  They meet every Thursday from 12:00 to 1:00 Community Christian Church located at 1150 Country Club Road, Metropolis IL 62960.

Connect Massac's Goal to Bring Broadband to every home, business and farm in Massac County

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – The Connect Massac Group has formed in Massac County to bridge the digital divide and bring fast, reliable and affordable broadband internet access to every home, business and farm in Massac County. 

Bill Coleman of the Benton Institute for Broadband and Society discussed the initiative.

The group is conducting a brief, confidential survey to better understand the Massac County residents’ current experiences and future needs.  The participation of folks in the county is crucial and will help Connect Massac to develop strategies focused on providing improved broadband infrastructure for Massac County, as well as help improve pushing out public safety information.
