A reintroduction to WMOK's Coffee Break Program -

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – WMOK’s community affairs program Coffee Break has been a long-time morning radio staple in Massac County and Southernmost Illinois.

As times go on and the calendar continues to flip we’ve come to realize that many younger residents and folks have arrived in our community to begin a new path or aspiration who don’t know what it means when they hear someone say “I heard it on the Coffee Break”.

WMOK’s community affairs program coffee break began when WMOK first went on air in 1951. The program was called Coffee Time and the host was Jay Riley.

We can’t imagine how the topics have changed over the years yet oddly stayed the same. One thing that has remained the same is the community affairs aspect of the Coffee Break.

Local government leaders, organizational leaders and community members come into our studio and take some time with us to talk with WMOK regarding topics that affect the community.

Some of our guests recur monthly while others are scheduled seasonally.  WMOK also has a list of “occasional” guests on Coffee Break.

We encourage questions from the community for our guests and suggestions for our guest list  – text 618-524-9209.

Tune in for our next regularly scheduled Coffee Break on Tuesday, May 14th following the 8AM WMOK News Check – Massac County Sheriff Chad Kaylor will join to us to talk about what’s been happening in county crime since we last spoke and more.
