2024 Kiwanis Scholarship Winners

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – The Kiwanis Club of Metropolis held its annual scholarship presentation on April 25th at the Metropolis Community Center, honoring outstanding students from Massac County.

This year’s award recipients are:

These talented individuals have demonstrated academic excellence, community service, and leadership potential. The Kiwanis Club told WMOK they are proud to support their future endeavors and congratulate them on this well-deserved recognition.

The scholarships will help these students pursue their higher education goals, shaping the future of our community.

City of Metropolis Spring Clean Up Week to take place May 13 - 17

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL –  Metropolis City Clean Up Week will take place May 13 – 17.

All items must be at your normal pick up place and within 5 feet of the trash container.

All Items should be bagged or contained – anything loose should be bundled so that it can be handled by one employee.

Lumber will be picked up in small amounts only and must be stacked in 3’x3′ rolls. 

Carpet and padding must also be rolled in no larger than 3’x3′ rolls.

Items that will not be picked up include: electronics, appliances, yard waste, hazardous or medical waste, construction and demolition debris, tires, batteries and paint cans (unless empty and dry).

Connect Massac's Goal to Bring Broadband to every home, business and farm in Massac County

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – The Connect Massac Group has formed in Massac County to bridge the digital divide and bring fast, reliable and affordable broadband internet access to every home, business and farm in Massac County. 

Bill Coleman of the Benton Institute for Broadband and Society discussed the initiative.

The group is conducting a brief, confidential survey to better understand the Massac County residents’ current experiences and future needs.  The participation of folks in the county is crucial and will help Connect Massac to develop strategies focused on providing improved broadband infrastructure for Massac County, as well as help improve pushing out public safety information.

11A – Massac Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Grab and Go Box Lunch Scholarship Fundraiser -he Auxiliary will keep a list of the pre-orders. All pre orders need to be made before April 29th as May 1st all orders will be turned in. Boxed can be picked up at Community Christian Church, in the Ark (gymnasium) from 11 to 12:30 pm All proceeds benefit the Auxiliary to help our group provide assistance to the hospital and for our annual scholarship program.

12P – Massac Memorial Hospital Auxiliary – Scholarship Fundraiser Painting Class – Community Christian Church Metropolis, 1150 Country Club Rd – Paint Class is $35 per individual, and includes a free boxed lunch to eat during break time. The class will start at 12 pm and will last until 2:30 pm Individuals may bring cash or check made out to Massac Memorial Hospital Auxiliary the day of the class.

Massac Mobile Health Unit has three locations to make receiving healthcare easier for you!

If you are needing a sick or well visit our providers can see you at one of these three locations.
Tuesdays: Vienna- City Park 9am-3:30pm

Thursdays: Ullin- Shawnee Community College 9am-3:30pm
