All month long—from October 1st through October 31st—the 2026 Library Crawl is in full swing across central and southern Illinois! If you’re looking for a great excuse to take a weekend drive, hit the open road, and check out neighboring communities, this is a total barn burner of an event for book lovers of all ages.
How to Participate in the Crawl
Getting involved is as easy as taking a stroll to your local library desk:
-
Pick up your official passport at your home library to get started.
-
Travel around central and southern Illinois and stop by participating public libraries throughout October.
-
Get your passport stamped at the circulation desk of each library you visit.
-
Visit 5 or more libraries during the month of October to complete the challenge!
-
Return your stamped passport to your home library to share your road trip adventures.
Discover More With Your Library Card
Did you know that your local library card unlocks far more than just what’s on the shelves at your home branch? Thanks to Illinois’ statewide courier service, you can check out materials at other participating libraries while you’re on your crawl and simply return them back to your home library when you’re finished!
