METROPOLIS, Ill. — Looking to build your future, make an impact, or grow your career right here in Southernmost Illinois? The Metropolis Chamber of Commerce is rolling out the welcome mat for local job seekers later this month with a major community job fair.
Scheduled for Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the event will run from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Metropolis Community Center, located at 900 West 10th Street. Best of all, admission is completely free, and organizers emphasize that all are welcome to attend—whether you’re a seasoned professional looking for a change or a student stepping into the workforce for the first time.
Connect, Explore, Get Hired
Local employers from across Massac County and the surrounding area will be on-site to meet face-to-face with candidates. To help you make the most of the afternoon, here is a quick look at how to prep before walking through the doors:
- Phase 1: Before the Fair (1–2 Weeks Prior): Take some time now to update and print multiple copies of your resume. Research the participating local employers so you know who you want to talk to, and practice a short, 30-second professional elevator pitch about who you are and what you bring to the table.
- Phase 2: Day of the Fair (10:00 AM – 10:30 AM): Dress in sharp, professional attire and arrive early. When you walk in, grab an event map and employer directory at the entrance so you can map out your route.
- Phase 3: At the Fair (10:30 AM – 12:30 PM): Visit your target employer booths, ask targeted questions regarding open roles and company culture, and don’t forget to collect business cards for your follow-up notes.
- Phase 4: Post-Fair (Within 24 Hours): Keep the momentum going! Send personalized thank-you emails or notes to the recruiters you spoke with, and submit any online applications as instructed.
