METROPOLIS, IL – WMOK recently sat down with Metropolis Animal Control Officer John Roman to catch up on Animal Control business in the city.
Pound Capacity and a Search for “Bella’s” Owner
During the update, Roman noted that the city’s pound capacity was holding steady at five.
While the facility works to manage local strays, one specific case remains a priority.
Roman is currently seeking the owner of a dog named Bella. Although the dog is microchipped and the owner has been identified as Randy, Roman has been unable to successfully establish contact. If you have any information that could help reunite Bella with her family, please reach out to Animal Control.

Dog Bites: Roman reported that there have been several dog bites recently within the city. He urges residents to ensure their pets are properly secured to prevent further incidents.

A “Live and Let Live” Approach: In a shift toward conservation, Roman discussed the benefits of allowing certain animals—including chicken snakes and other non-poisonous snakes—to roam or remain in their habitats rather than being killed. These animals often play a vital role in local pest control.

As a city employee, Roman reminded the community of the specific services he provides. While he handles many city-wide animal issues, he also maintains a list of contact numbers for specialists who can help residents resolve nuisance animal problems on private property.
