The Great American Eclipse - Superman View - Metropolis IL
(WMOK) Metropolis IL – Market Street in Metropolis and the Courthouse lawn looked like a totally different location upon our arrival Monday afternoon to prepare for the Great American Eclipse.
We haven’t received numbers just yet but we can attest to the fact that we had a wonderful turn out for the Super Solar Eclipse event brought to us by the Metropolis Chamber of Commerce.
As we roamed around our beautiful Superman Statue we knew that it would be difficult to keep a cell signal in such a crowd and began to be concerned that we may not have chosen the correct place from which to do our coverage.
It was at that time that we saw a couple of folks on the courthouse – then – as we looked to right we saw a wonderful sight – Sheriff Kaylor, Massac EMA Director Brian Horn and several others from the Sheriff’s department on top of the Sheriff’s Office. We got the Sheriff’s attention and asked him if we could join them there – to which he motioned us in and came down to meet us and direct us to the roof.
The second big story of the day was the traffic as folks made their exit from Metropolis and other surrounding counties and communities in Southernmost Illinois.
The traffic backup rivaled Encampment aside from the fact that rather than being concentrated in the Fort Massac area it was spread throughout Metropolis and Massac County as GPS attempted to assist drivers in avoiding the traffic which was in essence – unavoidable.
As we came through the area of Fairgrounds Road and highway 45 around 6pm the back up cars leaving Massac County stretch from I-24 to Fort Massac Curve. The backup on I-24 was hours long on I-24 and cleared much later in the evening.
Rural Health Celebrates 7th Anniversary for Their Medication Assisted Treatment Program
ANNA, IL, APRIL 03 – April 03 marks the seventh anniversary of Rural Health, Inc.’s Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program. MAT is the use of medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies to provide a “whole patient” approach to the treatment of opioid use disorders. Through research, success in treating substance use disorders was found with the combination of medication and therapy.
MAT services have been found to help sustain recovery for individuals struggling with addiction, and MAT is even used to prevent and reduce opioid overdoses. Rural Health, Inc. believes the program is much needed during this state of opioid crisis for Illinois. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, there were 3,261 fatalities due to opioid overdoses back in 2022.
Rural Health, Inc. is proud of the progress made with the program and is touched to see the lives affected by its restorative purpose. MAT services are provided at all five of Rural Health, Inc.’s clinics with certified providers who are accepting
new patients.
Individuals interested in learning more about MAT services are encouraged to call the Rural Health, Inc. main office in Anna at 618-833-4471.
