The Metropolis Police Department wrapped up its Labor Day safety campaign, resulting in multiple arrests and traffic citations across the area.
Running from August 14 through September 7, 2026, the high-visibility enforcement effort targeted impaired driving and traffic violations. Metropolis Police Chief Harry Masse noted that the campaign helped make local roads safer while spreading the word about the serious risks of impaired driving.
Overall campaign results included:

2 DUI arrests for driving under the influence

71 speeding citations issued to heavy-footed drivers

17 seat belt citations and 1 child restraint citation

5 criminal arrests

20 additional traffic citations
The Metropolis Police Department collaborated with law enforcement agencies and highway safety partners across the state for the Illinois “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI,” and “Click It or Ticket” initiatives.
The statewide enforcement effort was funded by federal highway safety funds administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
