WMOK – METROPOLIS, Ill. — The Metropolis Public Library continues to offer programs for young readers and their families, including a weekly Kids Club and take-and-make craft bags that families can pick up and complete at home.
The take-and-makes are a passive program, with craft bags put together by library staff in brown paper lunch sacks. Each bag includes the materials and instructions needed to complete a craft at home with a child. Families should have only basic household supplies on hand, such as scissors, if a project calls for them.
The bags are available at the children’s wing desk, and families do not need to ask for one. Visitors who see the bags on display may pick one up, or a couple, including for a niece or nephew at home.
The library also holds its two regular children’s programs each week. Kids Club meets every Monday at 3:30 p.m. and is aimed at elementary-age children through sixth grade. The group takes part in different crafts and games each week.
Recent Kids Club activities included air dry clay and Lego, as part of a Kids Choice Day. Upcoming activities include yarn monograms, thanks journaling for Thanksgiving, and a Spoon of Thanks project, also Thanksgiving themed. A dreamcatcher activity is planned for the 30th.
The full month of Kids Club activities is planned out and listed on a flyer at the library, and is also expected to be available on the library’s Facebook page for families who would like to see what is coming up.
