Metropolis Police Department Releases July Speed Enforcement Results

METROPOLIS, IL — The Metropolis Police Department has released traffic enforcement totals following a month-long safety campaign conducted throughout July aimed at reducing highway fatalities and encouraging drivers to slow down.

The campaign was conducted in partnership with state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois and was funded through federal traffic safety grants administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Campaign Enforcement Numbers

  • 65 speeding citations

  • 11 fugitives apprehended

  • 4 DUI arrests

  • 4 driver’s license suspensions/revocations

  • 3 seat belt citations

  • 3 uninsured motorist citations

  • 3 drug-related arrests

Police officials remind all drivers to stay attentive and follow posted speed limits to keep local roadways safe.
