From the WMOK News Room
(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – We’ve made it into the ’80s and we look for a high in the upper 80s this afternoon.
The National Weather service of Paducah has issued some outlooks – a hazardous weather outlook they issued just after 2:30 this morning in which they advised that a round thunderstorms is forecast for tonight over Southeast Missouri and possibly parts of Southern Illinois. They say heavy rain and flash flooding are a threat. They advise of storms later on through the week as well as a hydrologic Outlook – a multi-day rain and thunderstorm threat poses a flash flood risk.
We spoke with Beau Dodson Weather this morning on Coffee Break. He advised of that we do need to be aware of the incoming storm systems this week.
Beau expects tonight’s storms to move primarily through Southeast Missouri and possibly clip Southwest Illinois. Expectations for precipitation with tonight’s front – “two to four and maybe up to five inches”.
Beau says tomorrow night is when concerns increase for a heavier rain event. He advises that Wednesday night’s storms could drop as much as three to six inches of rain in some counties – perhaps more in some bands.
Beau explained that we can expect scattered thunderstorms at any given point Thursday and another storm complex forming Thursday night into Friday morning.
Beau further explained that if these storms track over the same areas repeatedly – those areas will need to be aware of flash flooding.
Beau went on to discuss the importance of not driving through flood waters.
In the extended outlook – Beau is tracking storm systems for Sunday.
Beau reiterated that while some severe storms can be expected that he feels our concerns at least for the next couple of days will be flash flooding.
