In an October Coffee Break, Metropolis Mayor Don Canada told WMOK more about an upcoming project to replace lead pipes in Metropolis. The project came to fruition in September of 2021 with the signing of a bill to remove and replace lead service lines throughout the state.
Hear our conversation from October with Metropolis Mayor Don Canada:
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency requires every water supply provider to develop and implement a back-flow prevention control program and mandates surveying every three years to identify and eliminate connections that could allow contaminants to accidentally flow back into the drinking water.
Metropolis Water Superintendent JK Thomas joined us at WMOK earlier in January to discuss the details of the project in depth. Within our discussion he explains the reasoning for the attention to lead lines, where to find you water intake, how to identify what type of pipes you have and how to report the information to the city of Metropolis:
In an effort to reduce cost and be environmentally friendly, the City of Metropolis will not be mailing these out but the surveys will be available online at www.metropolisil.gov
