WMOK News: Metropolis Community Launches "Cap It for Chad" Bottle Cap Drive to Honor Chad Lewis

METROPOLIS, IL — The Home of Superman – City of Metropolis, IL , in partnership with Green Tree Plastics, has launched a community-wide bottle cap collection drive named “Cap It for Chad: The Chad Lewis Legacy Project.”

Running from October 5, 2026, through February 26, 2027, the initiative aims to gather recycled plastic bottle caps and lids to craft recycled park furnishings and a dedicated memorial bench honoring the memory of Chad Lewis.

The initiative’s goal is set at 4,800 pounds of caps, culminating on February 26—which marks Chad’s birthday, when he would have turned 48.

How to Participate & Drop-Off Locations

Residents are encouraged to save clean plastic caps and lids to drop off at various convenient collection points throughout Metropolis:

Big John: 1200 E. 5th St.

Happy Hearts Senior Citizens Center: 703 Pearl St.

Harrah’s Metropolis Hotel: 100 E. Front St.

Massac Memorial Hospital: 28 Chick St.

Metropolis Chamber of Commerce: 515 Market St.

Metropolis City Hall Lobby: 106 W. 5th St.

Metropolis Fire Station: 213 W. 7th St.

Metropolis Police Department: 1020 Broadway St.

Collection Guidelines

To ensure items are processed through Green Tree Plastics’ ABC Promise Partnership program, community members should follow these guidelines:

Collect clean plastic caps and lids only.

Remove metal and non-plastic materials prior to drop-off.

Do not include bottles or larger plastic containers—caps and lids only.

More Information & Pickups

For residents who need assistance with pickup or would like more details about the project, organizers can be reached by phone or text at 618-638-0855.

Together, the Metropolis community can turn small everyday items into a lasting tribute—because every cap counts, and every memory matters.
