
WMOK – Metropolis, IL Metropolis Police Chief Harry Masse recently joined WMOK’s Coffee Break program to discuss the relentless heat wave impacting the area this summer. During the interview, Chief Masse reflected on how prolonged high temperatures create unique challenges for local first responders and residents across Metropolis and Massac County.
Chief Masse emphasized the critical role community members play in looking out for one another during extreme weather conditions. He urged residents to check regularly on elderly neighbors, ensure pets have adequate shade and fresh water, and utilize local cooling resources when heat indices reach hazardous levels.
Additionally, Chief Masse highlighted heat safety precautions for drivers, warning against leaving children or pets unattended in vehicles even for brief periods. He commended local emergency services, city crews, and community partners for their continued dedication to keeping residents safe throughout the challenging summer months.
