Joppa Rangers - A Piece of History Is Available!

WMOK – Massac County, IL – For generations, the gym floor at Joppa has been the heart of countless memories, from high-stakes games and school events to the forging of lifelong friendships. With the floor now officially removed to make way for a new installation, the school is offering the community a chance to own a tangible piece of that storied past.

Those interested in bringing a piece of Ranger history home are invited to pick up a section of the wood this Friday, July 3, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Plenty of material is available for everyone who wishes to participate.

Important Pickup Details

  • Location: Access the pickup area via the back door of the gym, located by the tennis courts.

  • Transportation: These pieces are very large and heavy. A truck or trailer is required for transport, as they will not fit in a standard car, SUV, or minivan.

  • Safety First: Please be prepared to load your pieces yourself. Additionally, exercise caution when handling the wood, as some pieces may still contain nails or fasteners.

  • Construction Zone: As the installation of the new gym floor is still in progress, please be mindful of restricted areas. Attendees are asked to avoid interfering with the ongoing construction to ensure a safe environment for everyone.

While most of the floor is available for the community, the school has decided to retain special sections—including the center court, the end zones, and the portion featuring the “Joppa” lettering—to be preserved and displayed on-site. This ensures that a core part of the school’s heritage remains a permanent fixture of the campus.

School officials expressed their gratitude to everyone who has shared their stories and Ranger pride during this transition. It is the hope of the district that these pieces will serve as lasting reminders of the many moments that defined the Joppa spirit on that floor.
