Bradfield Case Moves Forward in Massac County Court: Trial Delayed, Detention Continued

A pretrial conference was conducted in Massac County Circuit Court for defendant George E. Bradfield, bringing several major updates to the ongoing legal proceedings. State’s Attorney Stratemeyer and Assistant Robinson appeared on behalf of the State, while Attorney Cervantes represented the defense.

The latest courtroom actions and status updates include:

  • Jail Transfer: The defendant, George E. Bradfield, has been officially moved to the Massac County Jail.

  • Discovery & Evidence: Discovery exchanges between the state and the defense remain ongoing. The State is filing a Motion to Admit Evidence pursuant to Rule 404(b), which governs evidence of other crimes, wrongs, or acts. By agreement, the accompanying exhibits will be impounded by the circuit clerk immediately upon filing.

  • Trial Continuance: The defense made a verbal motion to continue the scheduled jury trial to a time to be determined (TBD). The court ruled that all current delay is caused by, occasioned by, and attributable to the defendant. The case will be set on a future jury call at the defense attorney’s request.

  • Continued Detention Ordered: The court made a formal finding that continued detention is strictly necessary. Based on the specific, articulable facts of the case, the court determined that detention must be maintained to avoid a real and present threat to the safety of any person or persons in the community, and to prevent the defendant’s willful flight from prosecution.

  • Next Court Date: A remote pretrial conference has been scheduled for June 30, 2026, at 9:00 AM. Notice of the setting was given to all parties in open court.
