From Regional Champs to Sectional Contenders: Massac County Patriots Keep Playoff Run Alive

METROPOLIS, IL — The Massac County Patriots entered the IHSA Class 2A postseason looking to reset their record after a competitive regular season. The team found its rhythm as regional play began, securing a spot deeper into the brackets.

The postseason run began at the Carterville 2A Regional. In the regional semifinal, Massac County defeated the Red Bud Musketeers with an 8-3 victory. They followed that performance with a 1-0 shutout against top-seeded Carterville on their home field to capture the Regional Title.

The team maintained that momentum into the 2A Sectional Semifinal this past Wednesday, June 3rd, matching up against the Benton Rangers. The Patriots performed well defensively and at the plate, breaking Benton’s five-game winning streak with a 5-2 win.

The victory marks three consecutive postseason wins for the Patriots, bringing their overall record to 16-14 as they advance in the playoffs.

WMOK’s Don Sawyer and Jim Prevallet will bring you the live play-by-play straight from Eovaldi Field at Benton City Park, located at 600 S. Du Quoin St. in Benton. The Acee’s Neighborhood Market Pre-Game Show is set to begin at 10:45am.

You can follow the game at 920AM on your radio or streaming worldwide from our website at 920wmok.com.
