WMOK – Metropolis, IL – The City of Metropolis has announced a new partnership with the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) to revitalize the community and foster growth.
A key element of this initiative is an extensive survey conducted by IHDA to assess the current housing landscape in Metropolis. This in-depth look at local residential options will provide critical information for builders and investors, helping to identify the specific types of housing the community needs—ranging from single-family homes to multi-family units and modern apartments.
The timing of this study is particularly opportune. With developers in nearby Paducah facing space constraints, Metropolis is prepared to capitalize on this shift. By offering solid data about the local market, city officials hope to position Metropolis as the prime choice for residential development in the region.
In a recent conversation with WMOK, Mayor Gregg Jeffords expressed confidence in the ongoing changes within the community, stating that Metropolis is “turning a corner.” However, he emphasized that progress relies on the collective efforts of all residents. Acknowledging that major revitalization projects take time, Mayor Jeffords quoted the adage, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” He reassured everyone that although the tasks ahead may be substantial, steady progress is being made.
The overarching goal of the IHDA study is to create a “snowball effect” that stimulates the local economy. As the Mayor noted, “progress breeds more progress.” By gathering essential data to attract developers now, Metropolis is laying the groundwork for a brighter, more vibrant tomorrow.
