Hickory Hill Road Closure Due to Railroad Bridge Issues

WMOK – Massac County, IL – The Massac County Highway Department has advised WMOK that Hickory Hill Road, located between Marion Road and Benton Road, will be closed for repairs due to concerns regarding the railroad bridge.

The closure is expected to remain in effect until sometime next week, although a specific reopening date has not yet been determined.

Officials from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) have advised this precautionary measure to ensure the safety of motorists, as no one will be permitted to cross the bridge until it has been properly repaired.

The Highway Department apologizes for any inconvenience this closure may cause and appreciates the public’s understanding during this necessary maintenance.

Today in Pop Culture:

1940: A Rivalry for the Ages Begins
The longest-running game of cat-and-mouse in history officially kicked off today with the debut of the theatrical short Puss Gets the Boot. While we know them as Tom and Jerry, the famous feline was actually named “Jasper” in this first appearance. He may have had a different name, but his luck against that mouse was just as bad then as it is now!

1978: Van Halen Changes the Strings
Rock music shifted on its axis today in 1978 with the release of the self-titled debut album, Van Halen. While David Lee Roth brought the swagger, it was Eddie Van Halen who rewrote the rulebook. The instrumental track “Eruption” introduced the world to his revolutionary two-handed tapping technique, proving that the guitar still had secrets left to tell.

1972: Ziggy Stardust Lands in London
The Toby Jug pub in London became the unlikely launchpad for a galactic revolution. On this night, David Bowie performed for the first time as his flamboyant alter ego, Ziggy Stardust. With fiery red hair and avant-garde fashion, Bowie didn’t just play a concert; he began an era of glam rock that redefined identity and performance art forever.
