Metropolis, IL – On Friday August 15, 2025, residents of Massac County can expect to hear emergency sirens as part of a crucial testing initiative.
The Massac County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), in collaboration with the Metropolis Office of Emergency Management (OEM), will conduct a series of essential tests to evaluate the effectiveness of the county’s emergency alert system.
The siren testing will begin at 10:00 AM and will last approximately 30 minutes. During this time, residents may hear a series of sounds, including a steady tone, which signifies a severe weather warning, and an intermittent tone, indicative of an all-clear signal.
Officials urge residents not to be alarmed by the sound of the sirens, as this is a proactive measure to ensure that the system is functioning properly and can quickly communicate critical information in case of an emergency. Community members are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the siren system and its meanings.
Your understanding and cooperation are appreciated as we work to keep our community safe.
