National Health Center Week

RHI TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL HEALTH CENTER WEEK 2024

ANNA, IL, AUG. 02 – Rural Health, Inc. (RHI) is proud to celebrate National Health Center
Week (NHCW) 2024, taking place August 4-10. The annual event highlights the essential role
Community Health Centers play in improving public health and advancing health equity.
Health centers represent the nation’s largest primary care network, serving 31.5 million patients
nationwide. This year’s NHCW celebration, launched by the National Association of Community
Health Centers (NACHC), focuses on “Powering Communities Through Caring Connections”
through a host of scheduled events that include resource fairs, back-to-school drives, health
screenings, visits to health centers by local, state, and national leaders, and more.

With a mission to make high-quality, affordable care available to everyone, regardless of their
ability to pay or insurance status, health centers save lives on the front lines of our nation’s most
pressing public health challenges. They are powered by a workforce of nearly 300,000 dedicated professionals who reach beyond the walls of the exam room to not only prevent illness but also address the social drivers that may cause it — climate change, homelessness, substance use disorders, food insecurity and behavioral health.
“This week is crucial for awareness because people need to know that this nation’s health centers are more than just the places for doctor appointments”, says RHI Community Outreach Coordinator Chase Hileman. “Our services, our medical professionals, all employees, play a significant part in taking on the issues within the communities we serve”.

Nearly 1,500 health centers are the health care home to:
One in 5 uninsured people
One in 3 people living in poverty
One in 7 rural residents
Nearly 9 million children
400,000 veterans

RHI plans to celebrate National Health Center Week by hosting patient appreciation days
featuring free snow cones and resources at each of their five clinics. To learn more about the
mission and accomplishments of health centers, visit www.nachc.org. You can learn more about
NHCW and view listings of events at www.healthcenterweek.org.

National Farmers Market Week

Saturday, August 10

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – Miranda Adams of the Southern Seven Health Department joined WMOK recently for our Coffee Break program to inform food vendors and home cooks of policies in place by the S7HD.

Adams will do a public presentation in a question/answer/discussion format at Noon on Saturday August 10th at Noon at the Dorothy Miller Park in Metropolis following that day’s Metropolis and Massac County Farmers Market.

Adams advised WMOK that she doesn’t want any of the vendors at the market to be concerned with her presence as her goal is to educate and make folks aware of the policies. She stated that enforcement of the policies – which she’ll speak further on at the presentation – would not be enforced in the markets in their ‘jurisdiction’ until the beginning of the 2025 Farmers Market Season.

The Learning Session is free and the public is invited to attend.
