(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – As family gatherings begin for the Thanksgiving, Christmas and Holiday season we hope that you’ll make time to not only make some great memories – but look at the holidays as a time of year to capture family stories and history.
We offer a few simple tips to get things started:
- Make it a game – go around the room and have everyone answer such questions as:
- “What was your first vehicle?”
- “What was your first job and how much did you make an hour?”
- “What’s your favorite movie?”
- “What’s your favorite song?”
We suggest recording this for later review by the family historian. A simple app to use is called “Voice Recorder” and can be found in most app stores.
- Make it a talk show – Put your eldest family members in a group – preferably in front of a video camera – and have them:
- tell stories about Thanksgivings and Christmases past
- recall family traditions
- reminisce about memories of family members long gone on

The app we use in the newsroom for recording audio is Voice Recorder – You can download it for Android here
