(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – WMOK spoke with Metropolis Police Chief Harry Masse regarding a chase that took place throughout parts of Metropolis on Monday morning (10/16/23) with speeds reported via scanner traffic as high as 60mph.

The event began when the Massac County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a domestic on US 45.  While attempting to locate – the subject was located by Metropolis Officers in Fort Massac State Park at which time they initiated a stop.

The subject fled through Metropolis at excessive rates of speed – 12th street, 8th street, 6th street – the scanner traffic advising of location was so rapid that we could not have possibly updated it on Faceb00k here in the WMOK newsroom.  We quickly went to live updates on air and advised motorists in Metropolis to pull off of the street and park until the danger had ended.

Chief Masse advised that the fact that they did not know if the passenger was being held against their will created great urgency in stopping the vehicle.

The car chase ended at 3rd and Pearl streets when a Metropolis squad struck the rear of the van which forced it into the curb causing tire damage.

The subject then fled on foot and was caught after being tased.

Jeffrey Blevins,28, Clarksville TN was charged with aggressive fleeing and eluding, aggravated reckless driving and suspended driver’s license.

Chief Masse told WMOK that Blevins was wanted on a parole violation warrant out of Kentucky for a drug charge as well.

WMOK followed up with Massac County Sheriff Chad Kaylor late Monday afternoon and he confirmed that Blevins remains in custody on a Kentucky warrant.
