National Weather Service Paducah Issues Most warnings in a 3 day period the office has issued since moving to a 58-county area in 1995

(WMOK) Metropolis, Illinois – The National Weather Service advised on Sunday that since Thursday morning they had had 118 separate reports of severe weather in the 58 county quad-state area (i.e. trees down, flooding or large hail at least 10-15 miles apart).

They had issued 128 severe/tornado/flash flood warnings at that time and that was before a few rounds of storms on Sunday afternoon and evening.

The most extreme events as of early Sunday of which the NES was aware:
Baseball sized hail in Southern Illinois Friday night
Wind damage in southwest Indiana Thursday morning
Wind damage in southern Illinois Saturday night

The NWS advised via social media that they will also will likely investigate damage in the Puxico, MO area and in Marshall/Lyon counties for tornado or 80+ mph straight line winds.

The NWS said, “The damage is widespread enough it will probably be difficult to thoroughly survey all of it, and it may be hard to pick apart which storm did what. Surveying won’t begin until we have a chance to regroup on Monday.”

Preliminary calculations are this is the most warnings in a 3 day period the office has issued since we moved to a 58-county area in 1995.

In addition to the storms our region experienced monumental heat indiceson Thursday and Friday.
