WMOK spoke with Massac Unit #1 School Superintendent Jason Hayes for Coffee Break on May 10, 2023
Mr. Hayes had some Acknowledgements/Announcements to make.
The Mu Alpha Theta Math Competition was held at MCHS on May 3rd. Bailey Bormann (Jefferson) placed 3rd in the district, Piper Jeffords (Franklin), Alexis Ott (Franklin), & Phin Pfister (Unity) all tied for 2nd place in the district. Emree Mounce (Jefferson) placed 1st in the district
MJHS met their Safe Days goal of 113 nn April 19, 2023. At MJHS a Safe Day is defined as any day where there are no acts of physical aggression with intent to harm. We are currently on 128 days. (This is the predicted # for May 10.) We have had zero fights this year and
only 1 in the past 4 years.
MJHS held their annual 7th grade orientation on April 27, 2023. They had a huge turn out packing the gym on both sides. Students met the staff, asked questions, and toured the school.
MCHS hosted their 8th annual College Signing Day event on April 28, 2023. Pictures of the event are posted online at:

Schools are performing their Spring Concerts

MJHS hosted the 5th annual district scholar bowl on May 9, 2023. The final match came down to Franklin vs Franklin… Franklin takes the traveling trophy home this year.
MJHS hosted the annual 6th grade scholar bowl tournament on May 9, 2023.
MJHS had 2 girls advance to the state tournament in golf. Natalie Barnett place 6th at Regionals. Maddie Frazine placed 2nd at Regionals and 12th at State.
