As Metropolis and Massac County residents adapt to the delays on I-24, one of the questions heard daily while out and about in Metropolis is: “How’s the traffic on I-24 today?”
The traffic delays concern residents for many reasons – the least of which is “a general delay when traveling to Paducah for errands” – the most serious of which is “the delay that could be caused for an ambulance enroute to Paducah if the traffic is delayed on I-24 and the traffic is thick with detours on highway 45 and the Brookport Bridge”.
While it’s prudent to allow yourself plenty of time and try to schedule trips on the interstate for “off peak” hours, it’s not always possible to do so.
It’s helpful to check the current traffic conditions before taking off onto your journey. On your smart phone you can add an app called Waze and on your smart phone, desktop computer or other device you can go to Google Maps to observe the current traffic flow.
