METROPOLIS, IL — A Metropolis man is in custody following a brief chase with local law enforcement early last week.
According to an arrest summary released by the Metropolis Police Department, 44-year-old Shawn L. Lewis of Metropolis was arrested on Monday, July 20, 2026. Officers apprehended Lewis near the local bowling alley following a bicycle and foot pursuit.
Lewis was wanted on an outstanding Massac County warrant for theft and now faces an additional charge of resisting arrest.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Updates regarding court proceedings will be provided as official records become available.
