METROPOLIS, IL — The Metropolis City Council will convene for its upcoming meeting on Tuesday, July 28th, at City Hall Council Chambers. Council members are set to consider a wide range of civic items, including major engineering investments, municipal upgrades, public safety equipment, and proposed city ordinance updates.
Engineering & Infrastructure Investments
A significant portion of the meeting will center on the Mayor’s Report, featuring several motions regarding payments to HMG for ongoing municipal development and maintenance engineering fees:

2024 Streetscape Project: $15,182.75 for ongoing project engineering.

Wastewater Treatment Facilities: $39,532.50 designated for design and bidding services.

Industrial Park Expansion: $14,251.25 for continued site development.

General Municipal Services: $9,280.00 covering 2026 operational services across the City’s Water Treatment Plant and Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Additionally, the council will consider a proposed service contract with Howard D. Happy for Toshiba equipment servicing at the Police Department, which includes a 5% rate increase driven by rising operational costs.
Public Safety Upgrades and Event Approvals
The council will address several crucial requests from both the local police and fire departments:

Fire Department Operations: Leaders will vote on filling an open Captain position using the current eligibility list, as well as an estimate of $6,989.85 to add striping and specialized lights to a new fire truck.

During the Corporate Counsel Report, two key ordinances will be presented for approval or rejection:
