Take Action for Libraries Day is held annually on the Thursday of National Library Week to rally advocates in support of library funding and the freedom to read. For 2026, it is observed on Thursday, April 23.

Launched in 2017, this day focuses on library advocacy at local, state, and federal levels. The American Library Association (ALA) encourages the public to:
  • Protect funding: Ensure libraries have the resources to provide essential community services.
  • Defend the freedom to read: Oppose book bans and legislative censorship.
  • Highlight community impact: Show how libraries provide equal opportunities and lifelong learning.

National Lost Dog Awareness Day, held annually on April 23rd, was created in 2014 by Lost Dogs of America to raise awareness about missing dogs and celebrate successful reunions. The day highlights that many stray dogs are lost family pets, not homeless, aiming to reduce shelter intake and encourage preventative measures like microchipping.

National Teach Children to Save Day (observed on the fourth Thursday in April, falling on April 23, 2026) is an annual initiative encouraging bankers, teachers, and parents to teach K-8 students essential money skills. Sponsored by the American Bankers Association, it focuses on promoting saving habits, setting goals, and distinguishing between needs and wants to build lifelong financial literacy.

Movie Theatre Day is celebrated annually on April 23rd to honor the cinema experience, community, and the history of movie theaters, with many observing it on April 23, 2026. It highlights the importance of shared entertainment experiences, dating back to the first U.S. movie theater in 1905.
