We want to remind our new subscribers and listeners that WMOK is operated by one human being.  It’s been quite a lot to keep up with all of the information during Winter Storm Fern; especially because it has been so timely.

As “we” catch up here at WMOK this week we will begin to work more news and events into our “Yellow Sheet” and On-Air News.

*Due to the temperatures, please advise someone that you are traveling – advise them of your route – advise them of your expected arrival time. Be sure to give this duty to someone who will follow up expeditedly if you have not contacted them by your estimated time.

We suggest as of now that you continue trickling your water through the week.

Massac Unit 1 Schools Announce E-Learning Day Due to Hazardous Road Conditions

Massac County, IL** – In response to the current hazardous road conditions, Massac Unit 1 Schools will remain closed on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Superintendent Jason Hayes announced that, despite improvements over the past two days, the safety of students and staff remains a top priority, and roads are still not safe for school bus travel on all routes.

During this closure, the district will implement an E-Learning Day. Students are encouraged to check their school-provided devices and email for instructions regarding their E-Learning activities, which have been shared by their classroom teachers.

“We understand that this is a challenging situation and appreciate the support and understanding of our families during this time,” Superintendent Hayes stated. “If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s assignments, please reach out to their teacher or building administrator.”

Officials plan to reassess the conditions tomorrow to determine if in-person learning can resume on Thursday. If conditions improve sufficiently, the district will hold a full day of school on Friday, January 30, 2026, in place of the previously scheduled half day.

The district apologizes for any inconvenience this closure may cause and thanks the community for their continued support as we navigate these challenging weather conditions.
