Metropolis Department of Public Safety Issues Phone Scam Alert

Metropolis Department of Public Safety Issues Phone Scam Alert

The Metropolis Department of Public Safety has issued a public safety notice regarding a potential phone scam affecting local residents. Earlier today, a resident reported receiving a phone call from an individual claiming to sell Medicaid and other insurance services. Alarmingly, when the resident attempted to return the call, the number connected directly to the Metropolis Department of Public Safety.

Officials want to clarify that the Metropolis Department of Public Safety is not affiliated with any insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare sales activities, and they do not make unsolicited calls requesting personal or financial information from citizens.

Residents are advised to exercise caution when receiving unexpected phone calls that request sensitive information. The Department emphasizes that individuals should never provide Social Security numbers, financial details, or insurance information over the phone unless they are certain of the caller’s identity.

If anyone receives a suspicious call of this nature, they are urged to report it to the Illinois Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division or their local law enforcement agency.

The Metropolis Department of Public Safety appreciates the resident who brought this matter to their attention and reminds everyone to stay alert for potential fraudulent activities.
