
Metropolis, IL – On September 10, 2025, local authorities responded to a call regarding a disturbance at the Ft. Massac Campgrounds. According to the report, a male individual was reportedly harassing other campers and smoking methamphetamine.
Upon arrival, officers identified the suspect as 42-year-old Eric Mitchell of Metropolis. Witnesses described Mitchell as making irrational statements and exhibiting signs of drug impairment. As officers approached, Mitchell attempted to discard a glass smoking pipe, which shattered upon hitting the ground.
During the encounter, Mitchell allegedly made threats directed at the responding officers and their families, along with derogatory remarks regarding minorities in custody. In light of his behavior, he was taken to Massac Hospital for evaluation before being processed.
Mitchell now faces several charges, including possession of drug paraphernalia, threatening public officials, and resisting arrest. He is currently being held at the Massac County Detention Center.
