WMOK (Metropolis, IL) – Rotarian and Youth Exchange Officer, Terry Foster joined us in the WMOK studio to talk about this year’s exchange student program. The Metropolis Rotary has hosted exchange students in previous years – more rarely, local students have gone abroad.
The exchange student has been selected from Brazil. She is a seventeen-year-old by the name of Guilia (Julia) who lives in a town in Brazil of similar size to Metropolis.
The Metropolis Rotary is in search of a host home for Guilia for the 2025/2026 school year.
Host homes should treat exchange students as valued family members, providing a supportive and safe environment with three meals a day, a private bedroom, and a quiet study area. They should also assist with adjustments to American culture, help with transportation, and maintain open communication with the student, their natural family, and the exchange program.
Foster explained that a vetting process, including a home visit, is required during the application process for hosting homes.
