
Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest in Metropolis
(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – A routine traffic stop turned into a significant drug bust on December 4, 2024, when a K9 officer apprehended a driver for speeding in a residential area.
The incident unfolded when a Metropolis K9 Officer observed a vehicle traveling at 44 mph in a designated 30 mph zone on 12th Street. After trailing the vehicle for some time, the officer was able to initiate a stop as the driver pulled into the Phillips 66 gas station on 5th Street.
During the stop, K9 Officer Krypto conducted a free air search around the vehicle, which resulted in a positive alert for narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a stash of Methamphetamine along with drug paraphernalia, leading to the arrest of the driver.
Dustin L. Babb, 41, of Metropolis, faces multiple charges, including speeding, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, possession of Methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Following his arrest, Babb was taken to the Massac County Detention Center, where he is awaiting a pretrial bond hearing.
Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of safe driving and adherence to traffic laws, especially in light of the ongoing battle against drug-related offenses in the community.
