This Afternoon -Sunny, with a high near 78. Calm wind becoming north northwest around 6 mph in the morning.

Thursday – Sunny, with a high near 79. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph.

Thursday Night – Mostly clear, with a low around 57. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph after midnight.

Friday – Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. East southeast wind 6 to 9 mph.

Friday Night – A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 60. East wind around 6 mph.

Saturday – A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 79. South wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

In recapping items from the Metropolis Police Department arrest blotter:

 

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL –

    • On May 13th, Metropolis law enforcement responded to a domestic disturbance in the 100 block of West 10th Street. Upon investigation, officers discovered that the victim had been intentionally struck in the stomach with a bicycle by Curtis W. Whited, a 44-year-old Metropolis resident. Whited was subsequently arrested, charged with domestic battery and held at the Massac County Detention Center.  Via court documents – Whited received pre-trial release with electronic monitoring and arraignment set 5/30/24 at 1pm.

 

    • On the 14th, Crystal G. Busby, a 49-year-old Metropolis resident, was taken into custody on 7th Street near Yasota Street. She was wanted on outstanding warrants issued by Massac County for failure to appear on charges of possession of a weapon by a felon. Busby was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. A Recognizance Order was filed on the 20th and a status hearing set for 06/24/2024 at 1:00

 

    • In a separate incident on the same day, Metropolis officers responded to a call in the area of 19th and Simmons Streets. Animal Control Officer Roman was flagged down by a female victim who was bleeding from a head injury.She reported being struck by Marcellus D. Foster, a 40-year-old Metropolis resident, who was last seen fleeing the scene on a bicycle towards 10th Street. Officers located Foster on 6th and Catherine Streets and arrested him for aggravated domestic battery. He was also lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. Via court documents – Foster received pre-trial release with electronic monitoring and arraignment set for 05/30/2024 at 1P.
    • On May 15th, Metropolis law enforcement responded to a reported theft at a residence in the 1300 block of Girard Street. The victim alleged that James B. Paget had stolen three hydrocodone pills from her, and the incident was captured on video surveillance.Paget was subsequently charged with theft and issued a notice to appear in court.  However, a routine check revealed that he was also wanted on an outstanding warrant from Massac County for failure to appear in court on a previous DUI charge. As a result, Paget was taken into custody and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. Paget received pre-trial release and arraignment set 6/24/24 at 1P

2nd Annual Senior Health and Fitness Day will be held on Wednesday, May 29th from 9AM-1PM at Fort Massac State Park. This event will be a FREE event opened to the community! If you are a senior adult this event is for you! We will have FREE health screenings provided by Massac Memorial Hospital, vendors, giveaways, Bingo, games and so much more.

Metropolis City Pool Now Open -

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – The Metropolis City pool opened to a large crowd on Monday.  The line began forming before 11:30 to get into the Metropolis City pool.

The daily admission is $1.50 per person – ages five and under are free with adult admission and that is cash only.

There will be swim lessons at the Metropolis City pool this summer and the pool facility is available for swim parties.

Swim passes are available – the individual price on swim passes is $25 per person and group price $20 per person for two or more in the same household.

Beau and Dean Dodson on Upcoming Trip to France

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – Beau Dodson and his dad Dean Dodson joined us recently on WMOK’s Coffee Break program to talk about their upcoming trip to France for the 80th anniversary and remembrance of D-Day.

Though Bob had never received any training to parachute and the training session had closed shortly before he was sent, Beau tells us how his great-uncle Bob parachuted in.
