Metropolis Police Department Arrest Blotter:

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – On the 27th of March, Metropolis Officers were called to the 1100 block of Metropolis. The caller found a small child clad only in a diaper wandering alone along the busy street.

Officers attempted to locate a parent without success. The child – who appeared to be about 2 years old – was then taken to the Metropolis Police Department and DCFS was contacted.

The mother, Daisy L. Downen,43, Metropolis, eventually arrived at the police Department.  She was arrested and charged with Child Endangerment and was released on a notice to appear.  The child was turned over to DCFS.

Late in the evening on March 30 a Metropolis Officer stopped a Gray Ford SUV for no taillights. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected a very strong odor of raw Cannabis emitting from the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed items related to drug trafficking. Also found were 3 bags of Methamphetamine, (approximately 114 grams), 26.8 grams of Cannabis, and a large sum of cash.

The passenger of the vehicle, Travis C. Blanton,32, Joppa, admitted that the items were his and not the driver’s.

Blanton was charged with, Possession of Methamphetamine, Methamphetamine trafficking, possession of drug paraphernalia, Possession of Cannabis, and possession of Cannabis with the intent to deliver. Blanton was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Rural Health Celebrates 7th Anniversary for Their Medication Assisted Treatment Program

ANNA, IL, APRIL 03 – April 03 marks the seventh anniversary of Rural Health, Inc.’s Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program. MAT is the use of medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies to provide a “whole patient” approach to the treatment of opioid use disorders. Through research, success in treating substance use disorders was found with the combination of medication and therapy.

MAT services have been found to help sustain recovery for individuals struggling with addiction, and MAT is even used to prevent and reduce opioid overdoses. Rural Health, Inc. believes the program is much needed during this state of opioid crisis for Illinois. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, there were 3,261 fatalities due to opioid overdoses back in 2022.

Rural Health, Inc. is proud of the progress made with the program and is touched to see the lives affected by its restorative purpose. MAT services are provided at all five of Rural Health, Inc.’s clinics with certified providers who are accepting
new patients.

Individuals interested in learning more about MAT services are encouraged to call the Rural Health, Inc. main office in Anna at 618-833-4471.
