Max Hook (‘66) and Carley Childress (‘13) are the 2024 class of Vienna High School Athletic Hall of Fame inductees.

Max Hook graduated in 1966 from Vienna High School. He was an outstanding basketball player on the 1966 Eagle team that went 24-3 which was the most wins in a season at the time. Max also Scored 403 points as a senior and 915 points in high school career. He earned a scholarship and played basketball at McKendree University, and was also a letterwinner in baseball at Vienna and as coach was winningest coach until 2023. Max was the baseball coach from 1992 to 2003 winning 255 games against 155 losses, a .621 winning percentage. He coached basketball at Breese Central winning 3 regional championships and coached at Vienna from 1982 to 1987. Max has been the major leader in upkeep and maintenance of Vienna ballparks for the last 20+ years.

Carley graduated from Vienna High School in 2013. She received 12 varsity letters as a star in basketball, softball, and volleyball. She was also the all-time leading scorer in basketball with 1695 points, as well as the all-time leader in games started (95), total field goals made (674), and 2 point field goals made (607). Carley ranks 2nd in steals (390), 6th in free throws made (280), and 8th in assists (275). She was a 4 year starter in softball with a career batting average of .430. Carley scored 130 runs, had 166 hits, with 47 doubles, 15 triples, 84 RBI’s. She earned a scholarship to Wabash Valley College where she played basketball and softball and she received all region first team honors in softball. Carley earned a scholarship and played softball her final 2 years at Akron University.

“We are proud of our rich history of student athletes at Vienna and the addition of both Max and Carley only shine a brighter light on that tradition,” said David Hill, Vienna athletic director.

The Hall of Fame induction will be held on Friday, January 26 as the Vienna Eagles take on the Christopher High School Bearcats with the junior varsity game starting at 5pm. The Future Cheerleaders will be performing during halftime of the JV game. Beta Club will also be having a chicken and dumpling fundraiser from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. The Hall of Fame Induction will take place before the varsity game (approximately 7:00pm). The junior high boys basketball teams from Buncombe, Cypress, New Simpson Hill, and Vienna Grade Schools will be recognized during halftime of the varsity basketball game. Youth for Christ will be hosting an Overtime event after all games beginning at 9:00pm. The event will include free food, worship, games, and prizes.
