A Note from the WMOK Newsroom

Good morning and Happy Thursday to you!!

We continue to bring the new look of the WMOK Yellow Sheet to life as we make little tweaks and revisions in the design.

One change that we have underway and want to make you aware of is the WMOK Food and Clothing Pantry Listing.  WMOK has produced the Food and Pantry Listing for some time with Massac County resources and recently some of our listeners in Pope and Johnson County have inquired about Food and Clothing Pantry listings in those counties.

We are in the process of adding resources for those counties.  If you are of a resource that we should include please text the information to 618-524-9209, email to wmoknews@frontier.com, mail to 339 Fairgrounds Road or stop by WMOK

Today Is...

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL = Pearl Harbor Day, observed annually on December 7th, commemorates the infamous attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, a pivotal event that propelled the United States into World War II. On that fateful Sunday morning, the Japanese Imperial Navy launched a surprise assault on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, resulting in the loss of more than 2,400 American lives and significant damage to the Pacific Fleet.

This day serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by military personnel and civilians during the war, and it honors the resilience and courage of those who endured the attack. Observances typically include memorial services, wreath-laying ceremonies, and moments of silence to honor the fallen and reflect on the impact of the attack.

Pearl Harbor Day also encourages reflection on the importance of vigilance, preparedness, and the enduring commitment to peace, as well as the enduring alliance between the United States and Japan. It stands as a solemn occasion to honor the past and ensure that the lessons learned from Pearl Harbor continue to resonate with future generations.

In from the Metropolis PD Arrest Blotter

Multiple Revoked Licenses Charges on Friday the 1st in Metropolis

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – The Metropolis Police Department arrest blotter advised of several drivers driving on revoked licenses.  On December 1st a Metropolis officer observed a gray Ford Escape and recognized the

driver as Cody C Blanton age 31 of Metropolis and was aware that Blanton had a revoked driver’s license.

A traffic stop was conducted and a computer check revealed that the license to drive was still revoked.  Blanton was charged with driving while license revoked and released on a notice to appear. The vehicle was turned over to a licensed driver.

Also on Friday the 1st a Metropolis officer observed a Chevrolet pickup truck pull out of the Dollar General and recognized the driver as Jeffrey E Turner age 48 of Joppa.  The officer was aware that Turner had a revoked driver’s license and a traffic stop was initiated on US 45 and Mount Mission Road.  The computer check confirmed that Turner’s license was still revoked and Turner was charged and released on a notice to appear.  The vehicle was turned over to a licensed driver.

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – We’ve been receiving more texts from you Happy Hearts learners following our gathering this week and we are thrilled!

We’re going to include some things here that we have covered in our sessions.  We’ll recap on what we’ve done and add additional info to help you hone up your skills.

Moving toward Christmas – Please text us at 618-524-9209 ((you can also “reply” to your “Yellow Sheet Text” – just jot us a little note or a big one and recap for us what you have learned and what you still have questions about.

One of the items we mentioned when we last met was “finding and following fun things on Facebook” –

When you’re on Facebook later search for “American Memory Lane” – on your smartphone touch the “magnifying glass” in the upper right hand of the screen and in the blank that appears type in American Memory Lane.  If you enjoy the page you will see a “like” or “follow” button.  Touching that button will cause the page and it’s posts to show up in your “Facebook Feed”.

Experiment with it and let us know how it goes!

Other pages we enjoy that following that you can investigate:

Mental Floss – Home for all things curious, including surprising facts; answers to life’s big questions; and untold –  Repeat the steps above at Facebook and search for Mental Floss.  If you enjoy it and would like to see it show up in your Facebook feed click “like” or “follow”

We’re going to set up a few small group sessions between now and when we restart at Happy Hearts in January.  If you would like to set up a small group – just text and let us know at 618-524-9209.
