Massac County Veterans Day Events 2023


Friday, November 10

1:30P – Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center – Veteran’s Day Celebration

There will be a Veteran’s Parade around the building. Guest speaker will be Harvey Baxter and the award ceremony will be at 2P.  Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.

3:30pm  Massac Memorial Hospital Veterans Program

This event is open to the public and they ask for all Veterans to attend. This event will be held at the front entrance of the hospital at the flagpole and a small reception to follow inside in our cafeteria.

Saturday November 11

7am – Coffee and visiting for Veterans begins at the Metropolis Public Library 317 Metropolis St, Metropolis.  Enter through the side door – the event is being held in the basement.
Metropolis American Legion Auxiliary-Overton P. Morris Post 306 has advised that Auxiliary Member who are available to assist with set up and decoration in the dining hall are welcome to join.  The process will begin at 8am on Saturday.

8-10A – Veteran’s Breakfast at the Metropolis Public Library

11A – Metropolis Veteran’s Day Celebration

The celebration will take place at the Veteran’s Memorial Park at 11A. National Anthem will be sung by Jennifer Knight and speaker Major General Johnny Miller, Army Retired. MC will be Lyle Lieb. Lunch will be served for Veterans at the American Legion after the ceremony.
Metropolis American Legion Post 306 will provide lunch for Massac County Veterans & their spouses following the service.  The post is located at 321 Market Street, Metropolis.  For more information call 618-524-2043
