Sheriff Kaylor Updates WMOK Regarding Thefts and Burglaries at Two Massac County Churches –

(WMOK) Metropolis, IL – A theft at Hillerman Missionary Baptist Church in Grand Chain makes the second theft incident at a Massac County Church in two weekends.  The first being at New Hope Baptist Church in New Columbia.

Massac County Sheriff Chad Kaylor joined us this morning for Coffee Break this morning and spoke with us in detail – before issuing a media release.

Kaylor told WMOK that the Sheriff’s Office received a report that someone had entered and burglarized the New Hope Church in the New Columbia community of Massac County on the weekend of June 17th.

The following weekend,a report came in of a theft at the Hillerman Missionary Baptist Church in Grand Chain.  At Hillerman, air conditioning units were stolen from the outside of the building.  Kaylor advised that often these are stolen so that the copper can be removed and taken for scrap.

The Sheriff told us that they have been canvasing the communities in which the incidents took place and the incidents remain under investigation.  Sheriff Kaylor asks that if anyone has anything to report regarding suspicious people, vehicles or activities – during the weekend of June 17th in the New Hope Church community – during the weekend of June 24th in the Hillerman Church community – to please contact the Massac County Sheriff’s Office at 618-524-2912.

The Massac County drug awareness coalition recently held their first ever laundry event in Massac county.

The event was held earlier in June and was done in an effort to provide folks an opportunity to launder their clothes at no charge.

Massac County Drug Awareness Coalition director Holly Windhorst told WMOK they had a pretty good turnout for the first event.

MCDAC Director Holly Windhorst: “We paid for 42 loads of laundry. We are definitely planning to do this again. We had several people sign up for our email newsletter and want to learn more about the coalition.”

Today Is:

The National Day of Joy! Celebrate the National Day of Joy on the last Wednesday of June, which falls on June 28 this year. We want to observe it by finding happiness outside the norms that society calls for. The search for joy is often attributed to material possessions but neglects family. National Day of Joy started when caregivers realized how important it is for senior people to be joyful. Enjoying everyday moments improves general well-being. It is not based on outward circumstances. This includes wealth and prestige. It is an ability to rejoice at all times and over the small things.
