When Metropolis Mayor Don Canada joined WMOK for Coffee Break this week he advised that two trees in front of the Metropolis City Hall that will be replaced – hopefully by the end of the month. Canada said that the trees are in poor condition, creating a safety hazard and need to be taken down. Officials are in the process now of choosing the trees that will take their place after they are removed.
Mayor Canada also discussed the city owned properties that are available for purchase. Canada said there are currently 50 or 60 lots for sale by the city and that signs are on the way which will mark the homes so that interested buyers can see what’s available. The signs have been ordered and Canada hopes that they will be in place by April.
Two new officers are in the pipeline to replace Officers McNeely and Cory following their retirements.
Regarding the arrival of Security Cameras in the city – Mayor Canada said the time is drawing near. The fiber is expected to be in operation by this weekend and the next step will be the addition of the cameras.
