Abandoned Dog Recently Taken into Custody by Metropolis Animal Control Officer John Roman Gets a Grooming and a Name

(WMOK – Metropolis, IL) Metropolis Animal Control and Abatement Officer John Roman joined WMOK this morning for Coffee Break to tell us more about a recent abandoned dog who was lucky to wind up in Roman’s territory.

Officer Roman first learned of the dog – now named Precious – when he received a call of a dog that “looked terrible” running with two huskies in Metropolis.  Upon arriving, Roman found the task of taking the dog into custody to be a difficult one.

The next day Officer Roman went in search of the dog with the assistance of Metropolis City Police Officers in an effort to capture the dog.  Though he doesn’t like to do so due to possible hazards to the animal, Roman darted the dog to subdue it.

On Sunday Hailee Nikoa Hutman-little and Steff Gardner of Precious Paws Pet Grooming in Paducah came over to the Metropolis Pound to give the sweetheart a grooming and remove severe mats in her fur.  Precious Paws has been in business for over 10 years.  The folks at Precious Paws told WMOK that finding a groomer can be difficult and they are happy to offer nine groomers at their salon to assist clients in finding the perfect match for their dog.  They said they were happy to help the Metropolis Pound and they hope to be able to partner with the shelter in the future if the situation arises.

Roman has named the dog Precious in honor of Precious Paws and is currently in touch with a rescue that will help to place Precious in a forever home.
