Metropolis Residents May Raise Chickens for the Purpose of Producing Eggs

/ WMOK

WMOK spoke with Metropolis Mayor Don Canada in June regarding questions from the community about Metropolis City Ordinances as they pertain to the keeping of livestock – specifically chickens.

Many Metropolis residents have voiced their wishes on social media to acquire chickens to produce eggs.

Mayor Canada told WMOK that the language in the ordinance does need some clarification which will come from Metropolis City Attorney Rick Abel; however it does appear that residents may possess chickens but not roosters.

Mayor Canada said that the ordinance seems to specify that livestock may not be raised within the city limits to be used “as” food, but he feels that the language of the ordinance will allow for chickens to produce eggs.
