Power Restored on East 8th Street Following Thursday Incident

Residents and business owners along East 8th Street saw their lights come back on yesterday afternoon following an hours-long power outage that occurred on Thursday.

The disruption began at approximately 9:24 a.m. In response to WMOK’s inquiry for details on the event, the Illinois State Police advised that preliminary information indicates that ISP Troop 10 responded to the scene when a single-vehicle crash involving a truck-tractor semi-trailer resulted in the vehicle striking two utility poles.  Officials confirmed there were no injuries and no significant road closures were reported. The incident remains under investigation, and no further information is available at this time.

WMOK checked in during the 4 o’clock hour on Thursday and spoke with Metropolis Public Works Director Natalie Harris. At that time, power was nearing full restoration for the area, with the exception of the Dollar General Store. The incident resulted in damage to the electrical infrastructure located on the store’s property.
