Patriots Battle to the Final Buzzer in Regional Thriller

WMOK – METROPOLIS, IL — In a game that defined “Patriot Pride,” the Massac County Patriots saw their postseason run come to a heartbreaking end Friday night, falling to the top-seeded Carterville Lions with a final score of 47–45.

The atmosphere inside at Massac County was electric last night as the Patriots went toe-to-toe with the No. 1 seed in the IHSA Class 2A Regional Championship. The Patriots trailed in the first quarter by as many as ten before recovering and going into WMOK at the Half with a tie.

While the scoreboard favored the Lions when the final horn sounded, the Massac County Patriots left everything they had on the gymnasium floor Friday night.

Though the season concludes with this narrowest of margins, the Patriots’ performance was a testament to their grit and the strength of the Massac County community that cheered them on until the very end.
