The Rise of AI Caricatures: A New Trend in Metropolis and Around the Globe

WMOK – Metropolis, IL – In early 2026, a fascinating new trend has taken social media by storm: the viral ChatGPT caricature phenomenon. This unique trend allows users to upload a selfie and ask the AI to “create a caricature based on everything you know about me.” With its ability to recall past interactions, the AI crafts a stylized, often humorous 3D portrait that encapsulates various aspects of the user’s life, including their career, hobbies, and personality traits.
Local community members have been particularly amused by the results, especially the “Me and My Job” series, which delivers caricatures that are not only side-splitting but also remarkably accurate. These fun representations provide a delightful glimpse into one’s professional life, making them a favorite among users.
However, as with any trend involving personal data, cybersecurity experts have raised concerns. Sharing sensitive personal and professional details to enhance these AI-generated images can create potential risks, leading to what some have described as “goldmines” for fraudsters. It’s essential for users to be mindful of the information they provide in order to mitigate these risks.
In light of this trend, a tutorial video titled “ChatGPT Caricature Trend Tutorial” is now available, offering a step-by-step guide for those interested in diving into this creative endeavor. The video includes essential prompts and tips to help users achieve optimal results with their AI-generated caricatures.
Recently, Metropolis Animal Control Officer John Roman shared insights on the significance of this trend during his visit to WMOK’s Coffee Break Program. He discussed how crafting an AI caricature for the Metropolis Pound Facebook Page can enhance community engagement in a fun and innovative way, showcasing the vibrant personalities within the local government.
As the popularity of AI caricatures continues to rise, it’s clear that these playful portraits are not only entertaining but also serve as a creative tool for community interaction. Just remember to keep safety in mind while joining in on the fun!

Today in History:
The Timeline of Pluto: From Discovery to Reclassification
Pluto’s journey as a recognized planet began on February 18, 1930, when astronomer Clyde Tombaugh made the groundbreaking discovery at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. Through meticulous comparison of two photographic plates of the night sky taken days apart, he identified a tiny point of light that had shifted position against the backdrop of fixed stars, leading to the announcement of Pluto as the ninth planet in our solar system.
For 76 years, Pluto enjoyed its status as the ninth planet, captivating the imagination of scientists and the public alike. However, this status was put into question in the early 2000s with the discovery of other similar icy bodies in the Kuiper Belt, prompting a significant scientific reassessment of what constitutes a planet.
In 2006, a pivotal moment in Pluto’s timeline occurred when the International Astronomical Union (IAU) redefined the criteria for planet classification. This led to the reclassification of Pluto as a dwarf planet, primarily due to its orbital characteristics and the presence of other objects of similar size in its vicinity. Thus, what began as a celebration of Pluto as a planet transformed into a deeper understanding of our solar system’s complexity, forever changing the narrative of Pluto’s identity.

I-24 Work Beginning Soon: Motorists Encouraged to Plan Ahead
WMOK – Metropolis, IL – Metropolis Police Chief Harry Masse, alongside Chief Tolbert, participated in a meeting regarding the I-24 bridge construction held at the Kentucky Transportation Headquarters in Paducah. During this meeting, key details were shared about upcoming work and traffic management strategies.
Beginning March 2nd, eastbound lanes of I-24 will be closed, with traffic being diverted to a head-to-head setup on the westbound side.
A jersey wall will separate the opposing flows of traffic to ensure safety. Motorists should expect to see traffic diverted just west of the bridge and merging back to the eastbound side just to the east of the bridge. Chief Masse advised that traffic control measures will follow similar protocols to those implemented last year.
Chief Masse raised concerns during the meeting regarding the possibility of converting one lane on the westbound side of U.S. 45. However, transportation officials declined this request, citing safety studies indicating that maintaining ramp traffic prior to the lane closure is more secure.
In addition to the bridge construction updates, Chief Masse noted that our rest area will go out for bid in June, with plans to shut down for approximately two years. This closure may affect travel plans for many drivers.
Furthermore, a request for additional “no parking” signs on the ramps was denied, as the existing signage complies with the standards set forth by the National Highway Safety Administration.
Officials anticipate that the current phase of bridge work will be completed by October 13th. This timeline coincides with the second weekend of the upcoming encampment, which is scheduled for the 10th and 11th, potentially leading to increased traffic congestion during this busy period.
As work progresses on the I-24 bridge, local drivers are encouraged to remain vigilant and plan their routes accordingly to accommodate the changes in traffic flow.
