Hickory Hill Road Closure Due to Railroad Bridge Issues

WMOK – Massac County, IL – The Massac County Highway Department has advised WMOK that Hickory Hill Road, located between Marion Road and Benton Road, will be closed for repairs due to concerns regarding the railroad bridge.

The closure is expected to remain in effect until sometime next week, although a specific reopening date has not yet been determined.

Officials from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) have advised this precautionary measure to ensure the safety of motorists, as no one will be permitted to cross the bridge until it has been properly repaired.

The Highway Department apologizes for any inconvenience this closure may cause and appreciates the public’s understanding during this necessary maintenance.

Today in History: Lame Duck Day

February 6th marks National Lame Duck Day, a novelty holiday that highlights an important milestone in American history: the ratification of the 20th Amendment in 1933.

This amendment significantly reduced the time between election day and inauguration, shifting the presidential start date from March 4th to January 20th.

The change was implemented to ensure that outgoing officials could not make significant decisions without accountability for an extended period after the election.
