“For Friday, SPC has outlooked some of the southern KY Purchase and KY Pennyrile under a marginal risk (level 1 out of 4) of severe thunderstorms. Looking at the latest model data, the severe risk looks very low to our region, with the better ingredients staying south and east in western and middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. That being said, a few thunderstorms are forecast during the morning and afternoon hours, but conditions will improve from northwest to southeast during the afternoon and evening hours. ”

Looking ahead to early next week, a blast of chilly Arctic air will bring the coldest temperatures of the season Sunday through Tuesday. Morning low temperatures Monday morning and Tuesday morning will fall into lower to middle 20s. Wind chill values of 10 to 20F are forecast Monday morning and 15 to 25F on Tuesday morning. Massac County Illinois Sheriff Race Set for 2026

The race for Massac County Sheriff in 2026 is officially open, setting the stage for a competitive election.

Current Sheriff Chad Kaylor announced his plan to embark on retirement following the conclusion of his current term during an appearance on WMOK’s Coffee Break Program earlier this year.

This decision means the county will see a new leader take the top law enforcement post in December 2026.

WMOK is currently awaiting the official candidates for each race and will provide updates as the details become available.

The General Primary Election will be held on March 17, 2026, where candidates will vie for nomination.

Potential candidates are already in the process of building their campaigns and securing support as the official filing period wrapped up earlier this week.

Key milestones in the campaign cycle include:

October 27 – November 3, 2025: The period for candidates for county office to file their nomination papers.

March 17, 2026: General Primary Election Day, where party nominees are selected.

November 3, 2026: General Election Day, determining the next Massac County Sheriff.

The Issues at the Forefront

With an open seat, the campaign will likely focus on what the candidates have to offer and their ideas for the future. The next Sheriff will have some important challenges to tackle, including:

Administration of the Massac County Jail: Ensuring efficient and secure operation of the county detention facility.

Public Safety Initiatives: Developing and implementing effective strategies for patrolling unincorporated areas and addressing prevalent crime issues.

Community Relations: Building trust and effective collaboration between the Sheriff’s Office and Massac County residents.

Resource Management: Wisely allocating the department’s budget and personnel to maximize law enforcement presence and efficiency.

Upholding the Constitution: Demonstrating a commitment to protecting the rights of citizens and adhering to the Constitution of the United States and the State of Illinois.

As the election for Massac County Sheriff draws closer, WMOK is committed to providing in-depth coverage of the candidates and their platforms. We will invite each of the candidates to our studio for interviews that will be pre-recorded and aired once they are completed. While our newsroom is compiling a list of topics to discuss, we also want to hear from the residents of Massac County.

Please send any specific questions or topics you’d like us to address during these interviews via text at 618-524-9209. Your input is invaluable in shaping this important conversation!

The Metropolis Police Department is calling on the community to come together for a noble cause this holiday season. On Saturday, November 8th, from 8:00 AM to noon, residents are invited to participate in a food drive aimed at collecting nonperishable food items for local families in need.

Hosted at Big John’s Grocery in Metropolis, IL, this event is a wonderful opportunity for community members to make a real difference in the lives of those less fortunate. With the holiday season approaching, the demand for food assistance increases, and every donation counts.

In the spirit of togetherness, the police department encourages everyone to step up and contribute, regardless of the size of the donation.
