Never Say Never: 90-Year-Old Barney Inspires with Karate Achievements

Misty Meadows Senior Living took to social media this week to share the accomplishments of one of their residents, Barney.

At 90 years old he is taking karate classes and received two 2nd place medals this weekend at a tournament in Benton Kentucky.

One Medal was for “weapon of choice” which he chose a cane, and the other second place medal was for demonstration LMA-1.

He said when they announced his age, he received a round of applause and many of the younger kids wanted to take their pictures with him.

Barney should be an inspiration to us all and what we should learn from this is “never say never.”

Massac Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Seeks New Partners for 2026 Membership Perks Card

The Massac Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is calling on local businesses to join their initiative for the 2026 Membership Perks Card program. With a commitment to community support, the Auxiliary is celebrating 20 years of service and looks forward to collaborating with both current and new partners.

For those businesses already participating as Perks Card Partners, the Auxiliary expresses its gratitude for your support in 2025 and encourages you to reinstate the same perks for the upcoming year. New businesses are also welcome to join, as the program aims to include a diverse range of local establishments from Metropolis, Vienna, Paducah, KY, and Golconda.

The Membership Perks Card operates similarly to spirit cards sold by high school sports teams, providing valuable discounts and incentives that encourage Auxiliary members to patronize participating businesses. This partnership not only supports the Auxiliary’s efforts but also boosts local commerce, driving customer traffic to merchant outlets.

To ensure the cards are ready for distribution by January 2026, interested businesses must confirm their participation by the deadline of November 30, 2025.

Michele Longworth, President of the MMH Auxiliary Board, expressed her enthusiasm for the program, stating, “We hope your business will become a Membership Perks Card Partner for 2026! By offering exclusive perks, you directly contribute to the resources that sustain our community’s healthcare services.”

Participating businesses will have their names featured on the Perks Card, which will be valid from January through December 31, 2026. Businesses interested in joining this initiative can contact Michele Longworth directly at 618-638-0555 or via email at imlongworth@gmail.com.

In supporting this effort, local businesses can make a meaningful impact while also attracting loyal customers. Join the Massac Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in making a difference in the community!

MCHS Marching Band Heads to Walt Disney World: Join Them in Celebrating and Supporting

Exciting news for the MCHS Marching Band! They have been selected to perform in a parade at the iconic Walt Disney World this June, marking a significant achievement for the talented group. This opportunity is not just a recognition of their hard work and dedication, but also a chance for them to showcase their skills on a grand stage.

In order to make this dream a reality, the band is actively raising funds to help offset the costs for each student. Your support can make a big difference! This Thursday night, as we cheer on our MCHS Football team at the home game, you can help the band by visiting their concession stand.

The band will be selling raffle tickets for a chance to win half of a processed hog and a chest freezer, alongside a delightful selection of baked goods for purchase. Don’t miss out on the chance to grab some sweet treats while supporting this talented group of musicians.

In addition to the raffle and baked goods, the concession stand will feature delicious BBQ Baked Potatoes, and for those looking to warm up, there will be Hot Chocolate and Hot Cider available while supplies last.

We invite everyone to come out for a fantastic night of football, delicious food, and community spirit. Join us in supporting your MCHS Marching Band and help them reach their goal of performing at Disney World. Let’s make this a night to remember!
